Watching birds, like photographic safaris, is an alternative to the old sport hunting, which decimated entire populations of endemic and endangered animals. Appreciate birds in their breeding and food areas.

As we have been indicating, the best zoos for animals are the reserves and national parks. In them, the animals behave as they really do in freedom and not with the nervous and sad expressions that captivity and abuse cause in them. At the same time, appreciating them in their environments makes us respect these habitats and see them as part of a fundamental whole, of which even we are part.

The activity of looking at birds is increasingly followed by thousands of people. Not only because of how easy it is to get started in it, but because of how inexpensive it is and the family atmosphere in which it operates. It is a way to get the body out of the chair, both from adults and to keep children away from televisions.

To get started you just need:

Good binoculars, 7-8x magnification, on a good strap.
Fresh clothing that protects your limbs from weeds and insects. With inconspicuous colors that blend in with the environment so as not to distract the birds, or scare them away.
You can take sunflower seeds or other food, which at any given time will serve as an attraction element for your sighting.
A notebook and pens. You can start your collection of birds, classifying them not only by species, but by size, attitude, song, pose, and colors. Write down the dates and areas of sighting, and you will see otherwise that you will be helping to keep track of their migration.

It is extremely important that you be very quiet when doing your excursions and sightings. You must respect the birds, not make yourself feel, remember that you are in their environment, and we do not want them to feel threatened and have to change areas.

You should not touch their nests, or alter the area where they live.

If you see very rare birds, do not announce them to the world, you could put them in danger of extinction. Even though we think we know everything, you could run into birds that are not yet known, and make their passage on earth very short.

You must respect private property, do not trespass fenced and fenced properties, you will be putting yourself and yours in danger.

It is important that you start this activity with experienced guides, and join a bird watching club. In Mexico, in the Yucatan peninsula with the amount of tropical habitats that there are, we suggest you visit from mangroves, to the southern areas of Mexico, in Chiapas. Biodiversity is very large, and although today birds go unnoticed as part of the environment, once you start to get involved in this activity, you will be amazed and admire what nature gives us every day.

You do not have to study Ornithology, which is the specialized science that studies birds and is dedicated to studying them in a detailed way. Admire the flight of a Kingfisher, some noisy Macaws or the coloring of the plumage of the Flamencos it's inspiring, keeping them is even more.

Finally, when you return to the city, do not capture birds and remove them from their environment; if you want to have feathery visitors in your house, read these tips!
