First certified organic wines from Mexico

At the foot of the Sierra Madre Oriental, in the south central region of the state of Coahuila, is the fertile Valley of Parras, a region that is home to the vineyards and winery of Casa Madero, the oldest winery in America since 1597.

Founded by Don Lorenzo García on August 19, 1597, who obtained a Mercy authorized by King Felipe II of Spain with the express purpose of planting vineyards to produce wine and brandy, thus giving formal birth to the Hacienda de San Lorenzo. Finally in 1893, after having passed through numerous owners, Don Evaristo Madero, patriarch of the Madero family and grandfather of President Francisco I. Madero, acquired the Hacienda de San Lorenzo. He modernizes the facilities, buys Alembiques Charentaises, and trains his sons and granddaughters in Europe in growing vines and making wines and brandies.

As of this year, the formal birth of what we know today as Casa Madero takes place. In 2010, the ISO9001: 2008 Certification was obtained in the manufacture of wines and distilled beverages, becoming the first wine producer in Mexico to acquire full certification in its processes in the vineyard and winery. Also in gratitude to the land and inspired by a deep respect for the environment, Casa Madero begins a transformation project towards Organic Agriculture. Receiving in 2012 by BCS Öko-Garantie, a German firm, its first Certification under USDA Standards.

Subsequently, in 2014 it was the first Mexican Wine to receive the National Organic Distinction along with its second certification now under the LOOAA Standard issued by SAGARPA. Currently Casa Madero remains a family business run by the fifth generation of the Madero family, who constantly work to be at the forefront in vineyard techniques and winemaking processes, with the aim of producing high quality Mexican wines, achieving with This is to be one of the leading brands and the Mexican winery with the highest number of International Recognitions in the wine market.

Quality wines, organic!

Casa Madero, concerned about its consumers and caring for the environment, launches a white wine and a red wine on the market, both made with organic grapes, offering a higher quality, healthy and natural product. 6 years ago in gratitude to the land and inspired by a deep respect for the environment, Casa Madero started a project of transformation towards an Agriculture organic. The process of transformation from our traditional vineyard to the now organic vineyard was carried out in several areas and was a stage of great effort, experimentation and constant learning.

The evolution consisted of detoxification and change from conventional methods to methods approved by certifying bodies; 105 chemical products are replaced by natural products that provide nutrients, control pests and support the optimal development of the vine. Toxic products such as pesticides, herbicides and other fertilizers were replaced by natural fertilizers such as manure or  compost; only permitted products and traditional winemaking techniques to produce natural wines. In 2012 we received by BCS Oko-Garantie, a German firm, the first Certification under USDA Standards.
Later, in 2014, Casa Madero is the first Mexican Wine to receive the National Organic Distinction along with its second certification now under the LOOAA Standard issued by SAGARPA.

Organic agriculture promotes diversity, as we use various crops to nourish and protect the land in the absence of chemicals. Beans, chickpeas and legumes are crops that, accompanying the vine, provide the necessary nutrients to the soil of our Valley of Parras.
In our organic vineyards, plant extracts are used as a method of natural pest control and they are an important piece for the care of the vine. With 10 hectares destined to organic vineyards of the Cabernet Sauvignon varieties for red grapes and Chardonnay for white grapes, the oldest winery in America since 1597, it launches its new proposal. From the vineyard it is a grape of higher quality in concentration of colors, aromas and flavors that faithfully transmit its terroir, for which a wine of exceptional, healthy and natural quality is produced.

Casa Madero Chardonnay is made with Organic Grapes, a fresh and balanced white wine with a clear straw color. Bright, delicate and elegant, it transmits its youth with a great personality loaded with tropical fruits. Perfect to enjoy with white meats, creamy sauces or citrus. On the other hand, the red, Casa Madero Cabernet Sauvignon made with Organic Grapes of a violet tone, impresses with a marked intensity, which opens the way to a delicate finish with aromas of ripe fruits, mineral notes and wood, which reflect its 0 months of passage through barrel. Extraordinary complement of cuts of meat, mature cheeses and even a rack of lamb.

These two new products from the winery are only the beginning because, Casa Madero, with a direction towards a sustainable future and committed to respecting the Valley of Parras and its consumers, will gradually transform itself until 100% of its vineyards work under an organic regime.
