April 22 is International Earth Day, and it is the perfect excuse to pay tribute to our planet and, now more than ever, make a conscience call from our homes and make changes in our habits.

If you are honoring in #QuettadeEnCasa and you are working remotely, you will not only be worried about the increase that that means; but now it is exponential as all members of the family are connected to more than one device simultaneously and for a long time.

One of the best ways to combat the bill is by saving energy, since lighting is an essential part of the different activities we carry out on a day-to-day basis; be it working, cooking, entertaining by exercising or just relaxing. Even more so now, that we spend much more time in our homes.

Signify, world leader in lighting, joins this commemoration and shares some points to consider that will help you save energy in any space in your home.

Follow these practical and simple recommendations to save energy ...

Use natural light whenever you can

This is a great alternative to have considerable energy savings. When you wake up, open the curtains and take advantage of all the sunlight you can. In addition, natural light is ideal for people who suffer from insomnia, as it helps to improve the rhythm of the circadian system, the internal biological process that regulates the sleep cycle.

Unplug your electrical appliances

Many of the electrical appliances that we have at home spend most of the time connected, even if they are turned off. The International Energy Agency (IEA), created by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) to shape a secure and sustainable energy future for all, notes that they continue to consume electricity.

Find out which appliances use the most energy and try to unplug them at the end of the day or when you're done using them. For example, a laptop can draw up to 15.7 W (watts) when in "sleep" mode.

Choose good quality products for lighting

Search bulbs with LED technology. In addition to being more efficient when lighting your spaces, with savings of up to 80% in energy compared to lighting from incandescent or low consumption bulbs, they have around 25 thousand hours of life and only occupy 20% of their current for heat generation.

Constantly check your electricity bills

Stay informed of the amount of energy consumed within your home and the contracted power. This will help you rectify that what you pay is equivalent to the electricity you use daily or monthly, and to know how your actions of energy savings they are impacting the collection. This step is important because it also allows you to detect in time if there is any type of electrical leak.

Although the world is paralyzed and Mother Earth is being given a break, it is important to continue putting a grain of sand and contribute to the conservation of the environment, the improvement of the air quality and the reduction of global warming. It is time to think about the balance between the economic needs of the human being and energy consumption so that they go in harmony with nature.
