It is estimated that, in our country, each year, an average of 63 deaths are recorded as a result of diseases related to the Smoking. The National Institute of Public Health (INSP) estimates that smoking caused 16,408 cases of cancer and more than 94 thousand heart attacks and hospitalizations for heart disease in 2020.
Regarding the economic impact, the INSP estimates that each year about 61 billion pesos are spent on the treatment of illnesses and health problems caused by smoking, which is equivalent to 0.34% of the Gross Domestic Product.
In 2021, GNP Seguros paid more than 400 billion pesos in the care of nearly 9,400 cases of illnesses related to tobacco use, which represents an average cost per case of about 150 thousand pesos. The National Institute of Public Health estimates that 43,246 annual deaths could be prevented by quitting smoking. Within the framework of World No Tobacco Day, GNP Seguros reiterates the importance of promoting healthy lifestyle habits that include avoiding tobacco consumption to reduce health risks.
