If many of us had known that its potassium content is much higher than that of plantain, or banana; we would see it more present in the diet of athletes. ! Maybe Rafael Nadal should eat it instead of his diet ritual on the court!

We have already discussed in previous articles how potassium is essential in muscle recovery and in the hydration of cells thanks to its regulatory property of water in them together with sodium. But knowing that it contains much more than the usual and typical banana, makes us see it with a little more interest than as a gastronomic eccentricity in our latitudes.

This fruit, originally from China, but positioned as New Zealand for being one of the largest exporters of it; contains a compound called lutein, which is closely associated with the prevention of cancer, and the proliferation of free radicals that degenerate cells and cause the premature old age.

It also contains both soluble and insoluble fibers.

The insoluble ones are those that pass through your digestive tract directly to the intestines, aid in digestion and benefit your intestinal transit while preventing constipation.

The soluble ones it contains are those that, like those of the Chia, when they come into contact with gastric juices, they become a kind of gel that helps you feel full and satisfied.

Consuming a couple of kiwis a day, due to its vitamin E content, is ideal to keep your eyesight in optimal condition, as it stimulates and maintains the eye membranes, preventing macular degeneration, as well as helping the health of the circulatory system by thinning the blood.

Its water content is ideal, like cucumber, in weight loss diets as it keeps you hydrated. It is a delicious ingredient for many smoothies and green juices for providing that unique flavor that overshadows other somewhat bitter flavors of some crucifers with which you combine it.

As we have said, it is not only rich in potassium, but due to the amount of vitamin it is a powerful antioxidant that raises your immune system and reduces your cholesterol levels.

Certainly, kiwi is not easy to get in our latitudes because it is not endemic to America, but if you do! Treasure it, and incorporate it into your healthy recipes for the benefits it brings to your health!
